It is impossible to argue that technology isn't changing the generations who grow up with it. But how important is it that we stay the same as the generations before us, peoples relation ships and ways of communication have always evolved. The Article sites a statistic that 22% of teens log onto a social networking site more than 10 times a day. the article also mentions a teen that says they dont know what they feel until they've put it into a text. both of these do show some problems, but they are both not nearly reflective of the whole of teens. And in regards to the social networking piece does that include logging on from a mobile device? because if it does, then that likely is more related to ease of access and boredom than the desire to constantly see whats going on. When this article touches on gaming, it says that 8.5% said that it has interfered with there life, and that classifies it as an addiction. While there are many that are addicted, I feel that at least some portion of those are to thinking about maybe the week that a game came out, and they got temporarily sucked into story of it. They also said that parents should pick out there kids games. NO. Just NO. If my mom were to pick out a video game for me, it would probably be one for learning the alphabet, or getting better at some academic concept, and when games are based on academic concepts they cease to be games(in my opinion). But that does not mean that games cannot be educational. There is a game I am playing right now that is not advertised, or is it mentions as a game that teaches you anything, but it requires thought, and touches on geography and history extensively. the article ends with them saying that students 8-18 spend around 7.5 hours daily with music, cellphones, computers, T.V., or video games. this doesn't surprise me. when your with your friends your normally listening to music, when your not your probably talking with them some how, either via cellphone or computer. And listening to music to good pretty much all the time, in the car, at home, in an elevator, on hold on the phone. tThe media is inescapable. One thing I would like to see is the responses from other age groups, seeing if its that we as a whole consume more media or is it just that there is more media to consume.

1. I believe that Arthur Miller is taking things a bit extreme, our culture is changing because of advertising but I do not think our culture is solely advertising. I think that advertising is a new, and a growing part of our culture.
2. I feel like the western countries are more susceptible to advertising because we seem to have more opportunities to be advertised to. Although I do not think that Americans are exceptionally susceptible compared to others that have comparable amounts of media.
3. some elements of ads today are that they both try to relate to us, and show us a better version of our lives, implying there product will lead us there. I think the biggest way to guard against advertising is to be confident in what you believe. because if you are not then you are not confident you will be much more susceptible to the emotional advertising of products.
4.i think its hard to know what the future will hold, but i think the more successfull advertisements will be those that get our attention in unconventional ways. recently they have been pushing product placement, tv ads and other things of the digital form. But i think people are becoming numb to for pop ups, and the commercials, and especially the blatant product placement. I think we will see more creative physical ads maybe like these. very eye catching, clear, and gets the respect of the viewer.

1. that disney moveis portray what it means to be a man as being extremely muscular and tough.
I agree that that it is certainly a theme in the many of the movie for showing what masculinity is, for example Hercules, he is the hero of the story and he is defined by being super muscular. but you cannot be sure that the idea behind them is necessarily to promote the ideal person, like for Hercules being super strong is his thing, and it wasn't invented by disney. for beauty and the beast, how else could a man take on a beast unless he was extremely muscular.
2. that media creates an unrealistic ideal body type.
im going to agree with this one, many times the models are photoshopped or just unhealthy.
3. that media is distorting every ones perception of reality
i need to start by saying the little girl on the subway thing was really messed up. i think it is a very valid argument that the media is skewing out perception, but i also find it ironic that we also keep talking about the growing obesity epidemic, warning kids of all the bad things about being fat. which also makes me think that even media could be a cause of obesity, because if some one tries to be like the ideal, and fails and gives up entirely, that could lead them to obesity.
